Local business goes fishing

David Sneed’s heart has always been in fishing.

Now Sneed’s heart is in his business, as the 32-year-old recently opened Coosa Outfitters in the Scottsdale Plaza off Highway 119.

David has been operating a business online for the past three years, but the former Thompson Middle School eighth-grade social studies teacher and basketball coach recently decided to set up shop in Alabaster.

David’s wife, Emily, is in her third year as a teacher at Thompson Middle, teaching seventh-grade literature.

“This has always been my hobby, so I decided to open up a brick and mortar location,” David said.

Besides Walmart, David said there is nowhere else in the Alabaster, Montevallo, Pelham and Columbiana area to buy fishing supplies and tackle.

“The traffic that Alabaster draws, the ease of doing business and the friendliness of the people is what drew us here,” David said.

The store currently offers mostly mid-range to high-end bass fishing tackles and the basics on crappie and catfish tackle.

David is meeting this week to discuss whether or not to carry live bait, and he hopes to carry deer and turkey hunting supplies, as well as ammunition.

Coosa Outfitters is currently open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
