Alabaster Council orders road improvements
Published 4:26pm Friday, July 17, 2009The Alabaster City Council rezoned a 21.7 acre parcel of property and held three public hearing on Alabaster subdivisions where roads are deficient and in need of repair.
The property in the Buck Creek Mill area includes the old Alabaster fire station and the YMCA property. Its zoning is being changed from B-3 to Institutional because it city buildings will be located there in the future.
The council voted to give the developers of the Shelby Farms Subdivision a 30-day extension before using its bond money to fund road repairs in that subdivision. The council continued the public hearing for Shelby Farms until its Aug. 20 meeting. If the developer has made the needed improvements by that time, the issue will be dismissed.
However, the council voted to send to Alabaster Mayor David Frings and his staff the issue of needed road improvements in the Lake Ridge subdivision, developed by Swift Creek Development., and road improvements needed in the Saginaw Commercial Park, developed by Randall H. Goggans.
Frings and his staff have the authority to work with those developers to make road repairs quickly. If those developers do not cooperate or do not make the improvements in a satisfactory or timely manner, Frings can make the decision to use the developers’ bond money to make needed road improvements.
