Lightning takes homecoming, 50-0

The Evangel Lightning had a warm welcome home Friday night, defeating East Central 50-0.

Evangel (9-1, 5-0) took advantage of four rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns and an interception for a touchdown return in the win.

The Lightning opened a 22-0 first-quarter lead and increased it to 30-0 at the half. The Lighting added a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter before Stefan Young closed out the scoring with a 5-yard pass.

Offensively for the Lightning, Hunter Burridge rushed five times for 138 yards and three touchdowns, including runs of 70, 50 and 15. Quarterback Henry Foster threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Stephan Davis and Jakan Sylestine ran for a 7-yard touchdown.

Defensively, Foster returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown. Wesley Dean, Michael Entrekin and Sylestine had four tackles apiece.

The Lightning will host the first round of the ICSGA playoffs against Covenant Christian of Loganville, Ga., Friday night at Berry Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
