Shelby County Board of Education minutes for August 15, 2009

The Shelby County Board of Education met on August 6, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. at the Central Office in Columbiana. The following Board members were present: Dr. Lee Doebler, Mr. Steve Martin, Ms. Peg Hill, and Ms. Anne Glass. Dr. David Nichols was absent.

Mr. Larry Headrick gave the Invocation.

Mr. Tom Ferguson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

A motion was made by Ms. Glass, seconded by Ms. Hill, and unanimously approved the board meeting agenda and addendum by deleting item #7.

The President opened the floor for public comments concerning agenda items. Mrs. Michele Harris addressed the board concerning item #22.

A motion was made by Ms. Glass, seconded by Ms. Hill and unanimously approved the July 9, 2009, board meeting minutes as presented.

A motion was made by Mr. Martin and seconded by Ms. Hill to approve the July 20, 2009, board meeting minutes. The motion passed with three voting in favor and Ms. Glass abstaining.

Mr. Fuller gave brief report on AYP.

The Superintendent recognized Sabrina Lynch for winning the 2008-2009 JSU’s Teacher Hall of Fame.

Upon written recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Ms. Glass, seconded by Ms. Hill, and unanimously approved the Fleet Insurance as presented.

Upon written recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Mr. Martin, seconded by Ms. Glass, and unanimously approved the application for the Issuance of Qualified School Construction Bonds as presented.

Upon written recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Mr. Martin, seconded by Ms. Hill, and unanimously approved the out-of-state field trips as presented.

Upon written recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Ms. Glass, seconded by Ms. Hill, and unanimously approved to grant administrative authority to select Screening Service for Background Checks as presented.

Upon written recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Ms. Hill, seconded by Mr. Martin, and unanimously approved the Technology Course of Study as presented.

Upon written recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Ms. Hill seconded by Ms. Glass and unanimously approved the following personnel action items:

Mr. Gary McCombs gave a presentation on the Public Budget Hearing FY 2009-2010.

The next scheduled meeting will be on Thursday, August 20, 2009, for a 4:00 p.m. work session and a board meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Office in Columbiana.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
