Thompson falls to Spain Park in area tournament opener

The Spain Park High School girls' basketball team picked up its first win in nearly a month in the opening game of the Class 6A, Area 10 tournament with a 59-58 victory Feb. 1 over the Thompson Warriors at Hoover High School.
The Jaguars last won a game Jan. 4 against Pell City. Spain Park moves on the semifinals of the Area 10 tournament Feb. 4, where the Jags will face rival Hoover.
Cocoa Hilliard led Spain Park (7-23) with 17 points. Ashley Gaston added 15 points. Kathryn Boswell chipped in 11 points.
Ashley Wilson led Thompson (8-19) with 18 points. KaDeisha Stowes added 12 points.
