Thompson picks up first area victory with win over Hoover

The Thompson High School baseball team picked up its first Class 6A, Area 10 victory with a 6-3 win over Hoover in high school baseball action March 9.
Mason Morris and Jonathon Keller combined to throw a two-hitter in the win.
Morris started on the mound and threw 5 and 1/3 innings. Morris allowed three runs on two hits with five strikeouts and three walks to get the win.
Keller came in to close out the game and earn the save. Keller pitched 1 and 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and a walk without allowing a hit.
Hoover got its only two hits of the game and took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run single by Justin Dunne. Brandon Booth made it 3-0 with an RBI groundout.
Thompson (9-4, 1-2 in Class 6A, Area 10) bounced back in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run by Matt Haskins to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Warriors exploded with five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to seal the victory.
Gus Williford drove in Ian Murray and Alex Henderson with his two-run double to tie the game at 3-3. Matt Haskins singled and Adam McKenzie hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Williford and give the Warriors a 4-3 lead.
Skylar Estell and Chad Collum singled and Andrew Smith drove in two more runs to cap the five-run inning.
